Which colors work best for a sexy neon light?
Pink, hot pink, and light red do most of the work in this category. They read warm at low output and hold their character once the room lights come down. The color sits in the tubing rather than in a coating, so a second sign ordered next year still matches the first one on the wall.
Check the wall before you commit. Warm white disappears on cream paint, and deep blue drops out against dark brick after dark. Hold a color sample against the actual surface, at night, with the lamps you normally use. If the sign is going somewhere people will be photographed near it, test the color on skin as well as on the wall, because a strong red throws warmth onto everything within a few feet of it.
Is a sexy neon sign too bright for a bedroom?
Not if we spec it for a bedroom rather than a storefront. A window sign competes with streetlights and daylight on glass. A bedroom sign only has to hold its own against a lamp, so we pull the output down and usually add an inline dimmer.

Will the sign photograph well?
It will, with a little planning. Shoot the sign slightly off-axis so the tubing does not blow out in the frame, and give it a dark or mid-tone background instead of white. Hot pink and red hold detail on camera better than ice blue, which tends to clip.
